SeaWorld San Diego - USA vlog day 19

I deliberated uploading this video for a while as I know Seaworld can evoke really negative opinions as it's regarded as a controversial establishment. However I wanted to share the whole of Tyler and I's USA road trip with y'all and omitting a day seemed such a shame.

I'm a huge animal lover and love, support and follow the work of charities and maritime organisations such as Sea Shepherd (http://www.seashepherd.org) and truly believe that the best way to alter peoples beliefs on the treatment of animals is through education.

The immersive experience that I experienced at Seaworld was extremely positive, the animals were all (as far as I saw) extremely well looked after and subjected to enriching and engaging activities which they truly seemed to enjoy partaking in. The three dolphins we met within our Dolphin Bay experience had the absolute best time working together and the trainers were really caring and compassionate.

I completely agree that the best place for all animals to be is in the wild however, all of the animals I encountered were born and raised in captivity and would not, as I was informed, survive should they be released into the wild.

A few years ago I was totally against swimming with captive dolphins however after going on a Wild Dolphin experience when visiting family in New Zealand my perspective totally changed. Noone on our trip entered the water at any point on the 10 hour excursion due to all of the dolphin pods we encountered having young pups with them. At the time we were all incredibly disappointed to miss out on this incredible experience. However after returning home I had the sudden realisation that I don't believe I would have been physically able to enter the water and approach these totally wild animals in their territory with no one who knew or understood the specific pods behaviours and mannerisms to assist and advise. Following this realisation I mentioned to Tyler that I'd only ever partake in such an experience should the dolphins be totally comfortable with human interaction and it be in a totally controlled and positive environment.

Anyone who's watched my videos from the start will know I'm totally besotted with Sharks, however there is no way that I'd everrrr participate in a Shark Cage dive. This however does not stop me from getting so close to the glass in aquariums, that my nose is basically against the glass, to observe these incredible creatures.

Yes it's truly tragic that these animals won't ever experience the wild and the wonders of the oceans, yet it's fantastic that through the tragedy of their captivity they can educate millions of people and raise awareness of the totally sickening dolphin and whale culls that occur annually as well as the impact climate change and waste disposal is having upon their lives.

I believe that through visiting and observing captive animals people can directly observe these magnificent animals, learning about individual species and being educated on what small changes they can make in their daily lives (recycling straws, not using carrier bags, etc...) have the ability to directly improve the conditions of animals in the wild. Ultimately initiating conversations on conservation and protection that have the ability to prevent the senseless and totally barbaric murder of 1000's of wild animals every year.
