What's in my suitcase / Packing for LA

What's in my suitcase and how I packed for my trip to LA. I was so busy in the lead up to and during London Fashion Week that I didn't manage to film a haul so I thought I'd share my new and old favourite holiday pieces with you!

How I got my job: Fashion Photographer

I sat down with my friend Sarah, a fashion photographer, to discuss: how she broke into the industry, her role as a fashion photographer and career advice.

QVC Fashion Week

Whilst LFW kicked off today showcasing brand new trends to shop and wear next season, QVC began their own fashion week revealing their key pieces for this season that you can shop and wear now!

I went along to the seriously beautiful QVC headquarters to go behind the scenes at the channel, seeing first hand where all the magic happens and had a sneak peek at their key pieces for spring/summer 2016, that I've been so keen to share with you.

After a personal tour of the studios, where I visited the live recordings studio (whilst they were transmitting a seriously tasty sausage segment), their catwalk and green rooms before heading to the prettiest studio where new season styles from QVC's most beloved designers including: Lulu Guinness, Clarks and H by Halston were ready for me to preview.

I fell totally in love with this classic light-blue and white striped tunic dress from C.Wonder (£30 and available in March), its classic cut means it'll look as good worn tucked into a pair of loveworn 501 Levi's with a pair of metallic glove shoes now and with a straw panama hat and sandals come summer.

C.Wonder is definitely a brand to watch at QVC, they have the sweetest raw-hem denim dress (£31)
and with so many new season discounts on new season styles it's definitely the perfect time to start purchasing your spring/summer wardrobe!

The new season neckerchief

Western-influenced style is set to be more of a thing this spring/summer than ever before. Before you start mass purchasing embroidered denim (more on that another day) and fringed suede jackets take inspiration from Saint Laurent, Little House on the Prairie and (my all time favourite) cowboy Calamity Jane and simply add a square neckerchief to your look.

It's undoubtedly the simplest, easiest and cheapest way to update your entire look. The neckerchief/bandanna scarf is versatile enough for day and night and is a super easy way to tap into the trend without going all out rodeo.

Seen on everyone, and anyone (including my dear Mumma) this simple accessory works just as well when worn with a crisp oversized white shirt and trusty mom jeans as it does when worn with your cosiest cashmere crew neck.

I've compiled an edit of my favourite styles currently available on the high-street: tweet me (@sarahrharrison) to let me know what you're wearing yours with...

Clockwise from top: Mixed Stripe Neckerchief, £8, Topshop; Fringed Bandana, £10, Asos; Paisley Neckerchief, £8, Asos; Bandana Print Scarf, £15, Limited Edition at Marks & Spencer; Navy Bandana, £6, Urban Outfitters; Red Bandana, £6, Urban Outfitters; Bandana Print Scarf, £15, Limited Edition at Marks & Spencer; Geometric Neckerchief, £8, Topshop; 60s Floral Neckerchief, £8, Topshop

Aromatherapy Associates at Liberty Clear Mind Bath and Shower product review

A few months ago I attended the launch of Aromatherapy Associates collaboration with Liberty London and totally fell in love with their Clear Mind Bath and Shower Oil.  I'd previously never used and oil in the shower, always using gels and lotions instead and I was definitely missing out.

Co-founder of Aromatherapy Associates Geraldine Howard spoke at the launch, sharing the story behind the collaboration with the desire to create an aroma which "portrays Liberty's distinct personality - one of passion and inspiration." Infused with the highest quality essential oils: the combination of chamomile and lavender to help relax and de-stress, whilst frankincense and bergamot revive and refocus your mind.

Simply apply the oil (to dry skin) all over, before getting into the shower or splash a little in whilst running your bath - as it heats up the most deliciously soothing fragrance fills the room helping you to relax and de-stress even further.

As if this wasn't enough it's perfectly-pretty packaging was handpicked from the Liberty archives to reflect the lovely aroma - it's Genevieve from their autumn/winter 2003 collection.

Have you used a bath/shower oil before? If so are there any you'd recommend?

New season staples

Shirt, £29.99, Zara; Jeans, £40, Topshop; Bag, £125, Cambridge Satchel Co; Shoes, £39.99, Zara

This weekend I was left home alone so I went shopping... (what else is one to do when left to their own devices?!) There have been a few pieces on my 'essential' (read as desirable and non-essential) list and without a boyfriend or house mate home to tell me otherwise I just purchased them. It was oddly empowering.

I've not really felt this great about buying anything since the Bella Freud sample sale and I thoroughly enjoyed wearing a top-to-toe new outfit today - especially as I literally couldn't tell you the last time this has happened as I've been in a strict money saving mindset. As the days worn on I've started to feel a little guilty for splurging on these bits so I concluded, on the tube home, that I'd write up a little post on why they were on my 'essential' new season list and hopefully feel a little justified/less guilty about my shop...

1, The grey wrap coat

We're supposed to be nearing spring (almost...) but it's getting colder and colder by the day, so much so that I've worn this coat more times since the Christmas break than I did in the four months before that. I picked it up quite wishfully in September and it was very, very neglected until December. I love it so much I'd wear it to work hoping it'd be cold, only to melt on the underground and arrive in a very sunny west London hot and bothered.

It's such a classic cut and colour that I'm sure to get lots of wear from it for season's to come. One of the many things I really love about it is how completely effortless it is, whether you're wearing it over  a dress on a night out or simply over a trusty tee and your favourite loveworn jeans it just makes everything feel more 'put-together.'

Last year I was never out of my favourite M&S camel coat and I think a grey style is a great modern alternative. Super versatile this classic long-line style wraps around you for extra warmth: on frosty mornings it almost feels like a lovely dressing gown...easing you into the commute to work.

2, The classic boyfriend shirt

A classic white shirt will never go out of style, neither will a light-blue (striped) one. Oversized styles are always a staple in my wardrobe regardless of whether they suit me or not - there's just something very comforting about wearing clothing that's a little looser than it necessarily should be.

Team yours with a pair of your favourite jeans - if you're still looking for your dream pair, I've shared mine below...

3, Topshop's Binx jeans

I accidentally stumbled across these dreamy super high-waisted jeans whilst rummaging through my local Topshop's sale rail. I got a little pathetically excited about the raw hem and brought them on the spot. Which in hindsight was a great choice as they're so, so tight I'd have never tried so squeeze into them so enthusiastically if I wasn't in the comfort of my own home.

They're so snug because they nip you in in all the right places, smoothing across the lower tummy area and buttoning up at your waist: they're really forgiving across all body shapes and are a great alternative to any Jamie obsessives.

Binx's cropped ankle style is super flattering for us gals with shorter legs too! Team yours with an oversized shirt, or white vest top and loveworn leather jacket.

4, The cross-body bag

Cross-body bag have been so popular, with everyone including my dear Mum sporting one. They're super easy to wear and are available in a multitude of sizes and shades as well as at a varying price points: you can invest in a classic Saint Laurent number or a more accessible Topshop style. Not only are they hands-free but they're also such an easy way to update any outfit - with the compact nature of the style ensuring that you limit your daily essentials and don't end up lugging around everything but the kitchen sink.

I love this super cute scalloped style from The Cambridge Satchel company, sleek, structured and patent it's sure to see you through the summer. Wear yours now with a chunky knit and muted neutrals.

5, The glove shoe

I was so totally over the plain-jane ballet pump, so when this chunky heel style became accessible on the high street (if you can afford the blush pink pair from Maryam Nassir Zadeh then you're living my dream) I was keen to get involved.

Topshop, ASOS and Urban Outfitters all have seriously great offerings of this revised ballet pump. I'm going to posting more on this nearer the end of this week so stay tuned...

Tweet me @sarahrharrison and let me know which style you've gone for.
