The Best Gingham Skirts Under £40

Jumper, Boden; Skirt, Urban Outfitters; Shoes, Next; Bag, Lulu Guinness

Gingham skirts have quickly become my go-to. Such an easy alternative to your everyday options a gingham style not only taps into one of the summers most popular trends.

Opt for styles with either an asymmetric hem or ruffled detailing to make a real statement, simply add a simple knit or tee to go from day-to-night with ease. Fresh, fun and a little flirty.

Here are 10 of the best on the high-street and the best bit is that they're all under £40!!

The Shacket:

Shacket, Tee and Clutch all Mango

Say hello to the shacket. As those of you who've been following my blog and/or my YouTube channel for a while will know I have a jacket obsession. I even filmed a video solely dedicate to my coat collection. So it should come as absolutely no surprise that when a slightly new style comes out I'm very keen to try it out (and almost inevitably end up purchasing two or three...). Right now it's the shacket.

A shirt/jacket hybrid the shacket is the ultimate item for these weird few weeks/months where the weather's so undecided on what it's doing that a coat seems too heavy but leaving the house without some form of jacket is just too irresponsible. This is what's oh-so-great about the shacket you can throw it over literally everything from tees to camis and it's been so useful for weekends and after work drinks.

This forrest green Mango shacket was my first ever foray into the shacket world and its totally converted me. With a cute embellished detailing on the pocket and 3/4 fluted sleeves it ticks all of my boxes. There are some great options on the high street at the mo and I thought I'd share a little edit of a few that have caught my eye and are currently in my shopping baskets patiently waiting until payday.

Whether suede, denim or khaki there's something for everyone...

The 25 Gingham Pieces To Shop RN:

It should come as no surprise that trusty Toppers would take each of SS17's most popular trends and combine them into one to create this dreamy must-have top. You'll have probably seen it alllll over instagram already it's the sweetest. Gingham ✔️ Ruffles ✔️ Asymmetric ✔️ I'm obsessed.

You know me, I love a little monochrome and surprisingly my newest obsession isn't a failsafe stripe but rather a paired back update on a previously twee picnic check. Up to last summer I wasn't really into gingham as it was always on more vintage or super girly pieces that weren't really my vibe. So when more classic cuts and trend-led pieces started to come through I got really excited and then, inevitably oh so into it.

The paired back vibes of the new-in pieces, especially the ruffled skirt - but more on that one another day - are so up my street. I wore this tee tucked into my favourite Marks & Spencer jeans for dinner over the weekend.

Top 5 Jumpsuits For Summer:

Jumpsuit, Monki; Mules, Marks and Spencer; Cross Body Bag, Marks & Spencer

So, despite what you might have seen on both here and my instagram (I'm @SarahRoseGoes if you're not already following me) I've been making a conscious effort to wear something other than jeans. I don't know when it happened but I suddenly changed from being a skirts and dresses girl to a jeans and a tee (and at the moment, a knit, a coat and a trench) kinda girl.

Since the weather's slowly, but surely improving it's becoming that little bit easier to opt for something other than my go-to M&S jeans and roster of tees. But, regardless of the weather and it's indecisive and unpredictable nature a jumpsuit can really get you through the day, from desk-to-dinner working with everything from sandals to mules and ankle boots. And, the best bit is there are so, so many gooduns that you can shop rn.

Topping my edit of the best jumpsuits available this spring are

1, Florals

2, Bardot / Strapless

3, Denim

4, Striped

9 Of The Best Straw Bags You Need This Summer:

Shirt, Boohoo; Jeans, Topshop; Mules, New look; Woven Tote, Gap

It's official I am straw bag obsessed. Whether it's a wicker or woven style I'm sold. I am so into them, not only do they make a very everyday outfit feel that little more summery, which is so needed - especially given the rainy and grey summer we've had so far!

A weekend and vacation staple – whether you’re shopping in the city or sunbathing on the beach, a statement straw bag is a must.

Tote yours to a pool party, barbecue or even work through your holiday blues by carrying yours into the office – when the sun’s out everything’s possible. If you’re feeling bold look to ASOS and Sensi Studio’s playful options – all of which are spacious enough to double as an over-night bag.

Whilst I first fell in love with Nannacay's beyond cute styles back in December (their woven 'hello' bag and wicker pom pom styles are unsurprisingly two of my faves from their summer collection) I'm really thankful that the lovely high street has followed suit with some bloody great purse friendly options, so you don't feel too guilty buying a wicker and straw option to tote about on your summer holidays.

I’ve compiled an edit of the best holiday bags which have summer written (quite literally in some cases) all over them! Available in all shapes and styles, these these playful styles are perfect for packing in all your essentials: roomy enough to fit your beach towel, magazine and sunblock while abroad, or iPad, jacket and umbrella when at home.

Shop my favourites below…

Clockwise from top left: Seashell Straw Bag, Hat Attack; Donna Beach Bag, Boden; Straw Bag with Pom Pom Detail, Glamorous; Straw Cross Body Bag with Tassels and Pom Poms, Glamorous; Straw Clutch, H&M; Honey Summer Tassel Bag, White Stuff; Beach Tote Bag, Zara; Straw Beach Pom Pom Bag, Pitusa

Feeling Inadequate?

In all honesty I feel utterly inadequate at least twice a week. Tending to flitter between feeling either personally inadequate, professionally inadequate or physically inadequate. I worry a lot (as you can probably tell...) and over questioning and over analysing things all the time certainly doesn't help.

So when I sat down to film a little haul a couple of months ago and just didn't feel quite up to it I thought I'd just have a little chat about my insecurities and my hang ups instead. It ended up being quite a ramble and it look so so so so long to edit it down into something that sort-of made sense. I was almost finished with it and unsure what to do when it was completed when I was reminded that this week is Mental Health Awareness Week. I'm so passionate about mental health and promoting awareness of and conversations around it that I thought it would be quite selfish not to post it. If it resonates with one of you then it will 100% be worth the hours and hours of editing.

This is something totally different to anything I've ever filmed before so do bear with me...
